Support a Global Minimum Wage!
Is the value of your job worth more or less in different parts of the world? More importantly, are people worth more or less in different parts of the world? It is amazing to see people in the developed countries turn a blind eye to those who struggle in their own country and especially towards other countries around the world. I walk around malls on any day of the week and watch parents buy expensive name brand shoes or clothes for their young children; all the while forgetting that many of those products were likely made by a young child in a developing country working 16 hour days; sometimes chained to their work station; working without breaks and only making pennies a day. It’s sad and pathetic. Millions of people in developed nations are trying to live up to the “Jones;” all the while millions more people are just trying to live. Would any parent want their children abused and treated like animals to make shoes and clothing? I doubt it.

It’s not just children that are abused. Working class people all over the world are not paid a decent wage. Even in most developed countries, the minimum wage is pathetically low. It is barely enough for a full-time employee to live off, let alone enjoy their lives and support their families. A country like Uganda has a minimum wage of about 2 cents an hour! Why and how is this allowed to happen? A person working at a fast food restaurant in the Netherlands can make a minimum wage of $13 an hour, however, that same job in China is only worth 34 cents an hour! If you have any common sense, then you realize this does not make any sense!

This website is very simple. It is a petition to create a Global Minimum Wage. So that it does not matter where you live and where you work, everyone in the world will at least be making the same minimum amount of money. Of course it’s the minimum level, but at least it will be fair, and fairness needs to start somewhere. The idea is to create a Global Minimum Wage of $10/hr US$. Now for many people, you will realize that this is still not a lot of money. I agree, but for the majority of countries in the world, this will boost their minimum wages by as much as 500% or more! Let me remind you that the federal minimum wage in the USA is set at roughly $6.55/hr US$. So for the majority of countries in the world, developing or developed, a $10/hour minimum wage would be welcomed and a tremendous step forward into creating equality for all people in the world.
